Church Histories

Religion was important to most of the early settlers in Huron County. Knowing what churches existed helps those researching their families look for possible records, affiliated groups, where they ancestors are buried, etc.  We know that churches are the gathering places not only for spiritual needs, but often serving as schools and social gatherings.

Many churches over the years have disappeared and we want to preserve their history in our county.

Most of the Roman Catholic histories and pictures are Courtesy and copyright of the Diocese of London’s Archive. Our sincere thanks to them and please cite them when using.

Most of the photos of United Churches in Huron were taken by the late Steve Hearn and Ivan McClymont – thanks to Western Waterways Region of United Church of Canada for permission to share them – please cite them when using.
