Why join?

We are working to preserve, digitize and make available records of interest to those researching Huron County roots. This takes volunteer hours and monies to keep the group functioning. This past year we scanned all 108 cemetery transcriptions and they are available for digital download.

We bring in speakers from Ontario with topics of interest to our members to speak at our meetings. A sysnopsis of the presentation is in the following newsletter. This year, with the speakers permission we are recording the speakers and making it available. Meetings are a time of sharing knowledge with each other.

We are educating and encouraging the pursuit of family history for members, but also those living in Huron County, so that future generations will value researching and preserving our family histories. We donated to the digitization of the Huron County newspaper project. We also in the last two year published a local author’s books on Huron County. David Yates is a local historian who has written a newspaper column for years highlighting history and characters of Huron County. The book is a collection of these stories. Out of the Woods – Chronicles and Characters of Huron County has sold over 1,000 copies. Nov 2019 we published his second book, Out of the Blue.

Our research team will answer specific research questions and conduct limited research in our published Huron County sources to the best of our ability, free of charge, for members.
