David Yates – Learn about the Canada CompanyThe Canada Company was a private British land development company established to aid in the colonization of a large part of Upper Canada. Founded by John Galt, who became its first Superintendent, the company was successful in populating an area called The Huron Tract – an achievement called “the most important single attempt at settlement in Canadian History.
David Yates is a retired teacher and his local history column appears in the Focus and the Goderich Signal Star. In 2013, David’s historical writings earned him the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal. He is also the author of five books on Huron County history.
