Establishing railways was essential to get expanding crops and good to market for the early settlers. Which rail company to go with and where the stops was was a political debate. It made or broke the growth of a settlement, whether or not they got a train station. The establishment of rail lines opened the area to the rest of Ontario and people were able to move more easily.
